Departure: Copenhagen
Arrival: Reykjavik
Duration: 14 Days
Begin in Svalbard, where glaciers, fjords and drifting sea ice set the stage for the Arctic world. From there, push into the pack ice of the Arctic Ocean, cross the Greenland Sea, and spend several days exploring the remote wilderness of East Greenland before concluding in Iceland. Throughout the voyage, daily plans are shaped by ice, weather and wildlife rather than fixed routes. You experience the Arctic as it functions in real time, from vast ice edges and towering fjords to the habitats that sustain polar bears and other Arctic species. By following a continuous route through multiple Arctic regions, you gain a deeper understanding of scale, remoteness and the powerful forces that define life at the top of the world.
Arrive in Copenhagen, Denmark’s vibrant capital and a natural gateway to the Arctic. Known for its waterfront setting, Nordic design, and relaxed pace of life, the city offers a gentle transition before entering the High Arctic.
After arrival, make your own way to the hotel and check in. The remainder of the day is at leisure, allowing you to rest, adjust to the time zone, or explore the city independently before the expedition begins. All meals today are at your own expense.
This morning, you board a private charter flight from Copenhagen to Longyearbyen, the gateway to the Svalbard archipelago. Located deep within the High Arctic, Longyearbyen is one of the northernmost towns in the world, surrounded by glaciers, mountains, and vast tundra landscapes.
Depending on flight timings, you may have time to explore the town center independently before embarkation. In the afternoon, we transfer to the pier to board our expedition vessel. After embarkation procedures and a safety briefing, we set sail, officially beginning our Arctic voyage.
Our exploration of Svalbard introduces you to the High Arctic at its most immediate and elemental. This region combines dramatic fjords, tidewater glaciers, drifting sea ice, and a strong presence of Arctic wildlife, offering a powerful opening chapter to the expedition. Activities and routing in Svalbard are guided by weather, sea ice, and wildlife conditions. Our experienced expedition team adapts plans in real time, allowing exploration to unfold naturally and ensuring the best possible experience under prevailing conditions. The focus is on immersion rather than schedule, as we begin to attune to the rhythms of the Arctic environment.
Possible landing and cruising sites may include:
The ship departs southward from the Spitsbergen archipelago, gradually leaving the last outlines of land behind and entering the open waters of the Greenland Sea. Sea birds may follow the ship or rest along the ice edge, while the scale of the Arctic begins to unfold.
Jan Mayen lies at the meeting point of the Greenland Sea and the Norwegian Sea, and ranks among the most remote and tightly controlled islands in the Arctic. Dominated by the Beerenberg volcano, the island is defined by a glacier capped volcanic cone rising above dark basalt shores. With no permanent civilian population, Jan Mayen remains largely untouched, used primarily for scientific and monitoring purposes, and holds exceptional value as a rare high latitude landing possibility.
Please note: Jan Mayen is administered by Norway and hosts military and meteorological facilities. Permission to approach or land is subject to final approval. If access is not granted, the day will be reallocated to extended exploration in East Greenland or the Spitsbergen region.
We spend a day crossing the Greenland Sea, sailing westward toward Greenland. You may choose to spend time on deck watching for whales and seabirds, or attend presentations led by the expedition team covering Arctic history, wildlife, glaciology, and exploration.
Over the coming days, you venture deep into East Greenland, one of the Arctic’s most remote and least disturbed regions. This vast area encompasses Northeast Greenland National Park and Scoresby Sound, one of the largest fjord systems on Earth. Human presence here is minimal, and natural processes continue largely uninterrupted. Exploration throughout East Greenland is entirely guided by conditions. Ice movement, wind, tides, visibility, and wildlife activity together shape each day’s decisions. Rather than following a fixed itinerary, our experienced expedition team adapts plans in response to the environment, allowing you to experience a landscape still governed by nature itself.
Possible landing and cruising sites may include:
Leave Greenland behind and sail eastward across the Denmark Strait toward Iceland. This final day at sea offers time to reflect on the journey, share experiences, and attend closing presentations by the expedition team. Keep watch for whales and seabirds as we make our final ocean crossing, bringing the Arctic expedition gradually to a close.
Early in the morning, the ship arrives in Reykjavik. After breakfast, you will disembark and continue your onward journey. From the High Arctic of Svalbard to the vast fjords of East Greenland, this journey completes a true traverse of Arctic landscapes, defined by ice, scale, and an ever-present sense of remoteness.
