The purpose-built Stella Australis exploration vessel is ideal for discovering the fjords of Patagonia. Onboard, the
décor in each of the 100 cabins is lowkey though comfortable, while spacious lounge areas and observation decks let the stunning landscape and views do the talking.
TECHNOLOGY & FUEL:
CO2 Emissions
CO₂ emissions are reduced through low-emission propulsion improvements and NOx-reduction technology. No carbon-neutral certification, published net-zero target, emissions inventory or offset program is disclosed. Smaller groups, short itineraries and efficient Zodiac operations support a non-invasive tourism model.
Waste Management
Onboard waste is separated, compacted and recycled, with kitchen waste and batteries collected separately before responsible disposal. Sewage, greywater and organic-waste treatment comply with MARPOL/SOLAS standards, while vacuum toilets help reduce freshwater use. A plastic-reduction program has eliminated more than 75,000 plastic bottles per season.
Citizen Science Programs
Scientific cooperation with CEQUA includes glacier photo monitoring, marine mammal and terrestrial wildlife observations, water-temperature measurements, biodiversity inventories and ecosystem-change monitoring. Guides receive ongoing scientific training and participate in data collection and environmental monitoring.
Local First Initiative / Communities
Close collaboration with the local scientific community supports regional research and ecosystem education in Punta Arenas and southern Chile. A non-invasive tourism model includes strict biosecurity, erosion prevention and responsible practices in sensitive environments. Active regional operations and scientific cooperation have supported environmental education and conservation since 1990.
