Citizen Science Programs

Wildlife data has been contributed to the Norwegian Polar Institute for more than a decade, including marine mammal and whale observations. Guests participate in wildlife surveys, environmental monitoring and conservation activities, supported by environmental education and AECO guidelines. The Clean Up Svalbard project also involves guests in removing marine debris from beaches.

Local First Initiative / Communities

NOK 150 per passenger traveling to Svalbard is contributed to the Svalbard Environmental Protection Fund. Since 2007, travelers have contributed more than NOK 2 million to conservation projects. Membership in AECO and IAATO supports ongoing conservation and environmental initiatives.
