Launching for the 2025/2026 season, the updated Expedition is a true polar glow-up — blending slick performance, creature comforts, and that classic community vibe.

Extensively refurbished with new engines, upgraded common areas, and refreshed cabins with ensuite bathrooms, this adventure-ready vessel was designed to keep things cozy, capable, and close to the action.

With space for just 128 passengers, the aim is to get everyone off the ship and exploring twice a day (conditions permitting) — something bigger vessels simply can’t do. That means more time on land, more wildlife sightings, and way more moments you’ll never forget.

CO2 Emissions

The refurbished Expedition features new engines designed to improve performance and fuel efficiency. Also reduces environmental impact through optimized operations and 4-stroke Zodiac engines, which use less fuel and produce less noise and cleaner exhaust than 2-stroke engines.

Waste Management

Efforts to reduce single-use plastics include the Plastics Partnership Project, which encourages suppliers and travellers to eliminate unnecessary plastic, particularly small single-use water bottles. The expedition provides refillable water bottles and access to safe drinking water, while larger containers are preferred where single-use plastic cannot be avoided. Through the Ocean Health Fund, support is also provided to projects addressing plastic pollution and marine waste.

Citizen Science Programs

Through its partnership with the Polar Citizen Science Collective, guests participate in real scientific research supporting polar conservation. Projects include seabird surveys, marine mammal photo identification, ecosystem monitoring, whale photo-ID, cloud monitoring and plankton monitoring. The Expedition also features expert-led lectures and educational programmes with specialists in marine biology, ornithology, geology and polar history.

Local First Initiative / Communities

Through the Planeterra Foundation, support is provided to community-based tourism and social enterprises that benefit Indigenous communities, marginalized women, and disadvantaged youth. Each expedition cruise contributes to the Ocean Health Fund, which supports ocean conservation, scientific research, waste reduction, and projects working with local communities. Planeterra-supported community enterprises are also integrated into expedition itineraries.
