CO2 Emissions

The combination of dual-fuel engines, electric-hybrid propulsion and wind-assisted sailing is designed to reduce fuel use and emissions compared with conventional propulsion. The 9 MW battery system supports quieter, lower-emission operation, while wind propulsion can enable zero-emission cruising when wind and sea conditions permit.

Waste Management

Reusable glass bottles are used to reduce reliance on single-use plastics, while onboard operations incorporate resource-conscious practices and sustainability-focused technologies. Environmental responsibility is also supported through partnerships with organizations committed to reducing the impact of travel and maritime operations.

Citizen Science Programs

Expedition voyages are accompanied by experienced expedition leaders and specialists who may include geologists, zoologists, conservationists and other researchers. These experts provide educational briefings and help guests better understand the natural environments they visit. Polar expeditions include opportunities for wildlife observation and environmental learning through Zodiac safaris, shore landings and other field experiences. Operations follow guidelines established by IAATO in Antarctica and AECO in the Arctic to support responsible tourism and environmental protection.

Local First Initiative / Communities

Local communities are incorporated into expedition experiences through interactions with residents, local experts and cultural specialists. Voyages to the Arctic, for example, include opportunities to engage with local communities and learn about regional traditions and ways of life. Cultural experiences are designed around authentic connections with destinations rather than simply visiting major tourist sites. The program also works with organizations such as AECO, whose guidelines emphasize consideration for local cultures and cultural heritage. Local suppliers and producers can also contribute to the onboard experience, including regional food and products sourced through local partnerships.
