TECHNOLOGY & FUEL:

• Diesel-electric propulsion with four generators, optimized hull/propeller design and dynamic positioning.
• Uses high-grade MGO; no LNG, battery or hybrid propulsion disclosed.
• Heat recovery, LED lighting and optimized HVAC improve energy efficiency.

CO2 Emissions

Carbon accounting covers Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions following the GHG Protocol. Fleet upgrades, operational efficiencies and technology investments are being used to reduce emissions per passenger.

Waste Management

Ultramarine uses a Micro Auto-Gasification System (MAGS) that converts combustible waste into inert solid carbon while generating usable heat. Black and grey water are thoroughly treated, while waste reduction initiatives include reusable water bottles, refill stations and elimination of single-use items.

Citizen Science Programs

Guests participate in scientific programs including FjordPhyto, Happywhale and PolarWatch, contributing data to scientific databases and supporting marine, seabird, oceanographic and glacier research. Newer expeditions also feature a Science Hub where guests can engage with scientists, researchers and expedition guides and review data and samples collected during the voyage.

Local First Initiative / Communities

Local guides and experts contribute to expedition experiences and environmental education. Collaboration with Arctic communities supports community-based experiences and local economic development, while AECO guidelines underpin responsible tourism, cultural respect and environmental stewardship.
