Only on South Georgia Island can you see such a vast and dense congregation of king penguins. Throughout the journey, you’ll also spot gentoo penguins, rockhopper penguins, and Magellanic penguins, among others. It’s an absolute paradise for penguin enthusiasts.
Located on Argentina’s Atlantic coast, Mar del Plata is a lively seaside city known for its broad shoreline, maritime character, and relaxed coastal atmosphere. It serves as the starting point of this polar adventure. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel and check in. The rest of the day is at leisure to relax and prepare for the voyage ahead. For your flexibility and convenience, meals today are at your own arrangement.
After breakfast, we will arrange a group transfer to the port for embarkation. Today, your expedition begins as we board the ship and set sail southward into the South Atlantic. As the coastline gradually fades into the distance, the rhythm of the voyage begins to take shape. On board, you may settle into your cabin, become familiar with the ship’s facilities, and attend essential briefings and safety procedures before we head deeper into the Southern Ocean.
As we sail south across the vast South Atlantic, the days at sea become an essential part of the expedition experience. Wide open waters, changing weather, and seabirds gliding alongside the ship all contribute to the feeling of true polar travel. During this time, the expedition team will offer lectures and presentations on South Georgia’s wildlife, Shackleton’s legendary story, and the natural history of Antarctica. As we gain latitude, the air, sea, and light begin to change, signaling that the polar world lies ahead.
South Georgia is one of the most remarkable highlights of the voyage, a sub-Antarctic island of towering mountains, sweeping glaciers, and wildlife rich shores. Over the coming days, we will make the most of local weather and sea conditions to explore different landing sites and zodiac cruising areas, entering a world of king penguin colonies, seal haul outs, and seabird nesting grounds.
Leaving South Georgia behind, we return to open water and continue south toward the Antarctic region. After the vivid wildlife intensity of South Georgia, the atmosphere gradually shifts toward the colder, more pristine world of Antarctica. These sea days offer time to continue learning with the expedition team, enjoy the ship’s facilities, and watch for seabirds and whales from the deck as we transition into Antarctic waters.
Over the next several days, we enter the Antarctic world itself. This part of the voyage brings together some of the most evocative names and landscapes of the far south, combining exploration history, dramatic scenery, and the unforgettable presence of the Seventh Continent.
From there, the voyage continues into the South Shetland Islands, the gateway to Antarctica, where snow covered peaks, glaciers, floating ice, and abundant wildlife begin to unfold around us. A visit connected with Great Wall Station adds a meaningful dimension for Chinese travelers, offering a point of connection with China’s ongoing presence in Antarctic exploration and science.
As we leave Antarctica behind and begin our northbound return, a final day at sea offers time to reflect on the journey. You may attend recap presentations, revisit your photographs, or simply spend quiet time on deck watching the Southern Ocean. With seabirds once again becoming more frequent and the atmosphere gradually shifting, the voyage begins its gentle transition back toward South America.
This morning, we arrive in Ushuaia. After breakfast, disembarkation procedures take place, marking the end of this extraordinary expedition from South Georgia to the Antarctic Peninsula. The glaciers, wildlife, history, and first light of the polar season will remain with you long after the voyage has come to an end.
